UNICAL Aspirants: Understanding the Point Tally System for UNICAL Admission Screening 2024

With the recent change in the admission system of UNICAL, as a UNICAL aspirant, it is necessary to understand the point tally system for admission screening.

How the point tally system for admission works is that the candidate’s chances of securing admission will depend on their point tally, which is calculated using their O’level results (subject grades) and JAMB score. Here’s how this point tally is determined:

• Single Sitting Advantage: If a candidate submits a single result with all the relevant subjects, they automatically earn 10 points. This result can be from NECO, WASSCE, November/December WASSCE, etc. However, if a candidate has results from two sittings, they receive only 2 points.
• O’ Level Grade Points: Each grade in your O’level results is assigned a specific point value: A = 6 points, B = 4 points, and C = 3 points.
• UTME Score Points: JAMB scores are also converted to points based on the score range:
• 180-200 = 20-23 points
• 200-250 = 24-33 points
• 251-300 = 34-43 points
• 300-400 = 44-60 points

For example, a candidate who scores between 180-185 will earn 20 points, while a score between 186-190 will earn 21 points.

Additionally, factors like catchment area and educationally less-developed states will still influence the admission process.

How to Calculate Your Points for the Admission Screening Exercise:

1. Sittings: If all required O’level subjects are passed in a single sitting, you start with 10 points.
2. O’ Level Grades: Suppose your O’level result includes 2 As, 3 Bs, and 4 Cs. Your points would be calculated as follows:

• (2×6) + (3×4) + (4×3) = 33 points.

1. JAMB Score: If your JAMB score is 200, you earn 24 points.

To calculate your total admission points, simply add your points for sittings, O’level grades, and JAMB score:

• Total Point = Sittings Points + O’ Level Points + JAMB Points

Using the example above, your total would be 10 + 33 + 24 = 67 points.
