Our attention has been drawn to some shocking and puerile publications on social media platforms suggesting that the quintessential Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has been ‘suspended’ and or ‘removed’ from office as the Institution’s helmsman.
While it is true that the purported ‘suspension/removal’ exists only in the wildest imagination of the propagandists and their sponsors, enemies of progress and mischief makers, it is pertinent to set the record straight.
It is apt to put the unscrupulous propagandists on notice that the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, contrary to their claims, vain wishes, prayers and falsehoods is currently on OFFICIAL LEAVE after four years of meritorious service in office.
As an unblemished academic, Prof. Florence Banku Obi after obtaining an approval to proceed on leave, she appointed one of her Deputy Vice Chancellors, Prof. Peter C. Okafor to Act on her behalf, whereas some ignoramus and mischief makers are going around the social media congratulating her acting, claiming she has been “suspended/removed” from office.
It is obvious that this is one of the reasons most Chief Executives in Nigeria fear to go on leave because of the unknown, but not Prof. Florence Banku Obi who runs an open administration.
Hence, the public is hereby advised to disregard any rumor purporting that Prof. Florence Banku Obi has either been suspended or removed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar.
